Sliquid Smooth, for smooth skin

ls_sliquidshave_366.jpg

The ongoing hunt for new potions and lotions kicks into overdrive as the calendar marches toward summer and flippy-skirts-and-shorts season approaches. That annoying “we wear short shorts” song starts resounding in your head, and everywhere you look, from the magazines to the morning news, there’s some reminder that “bikini season” is nigh. Enough! We get it! We’re stubbly and pasty and we have some smoothing-out work to do before May! Jeez…
One way to make your world a smoother place: Sliquid Smooth, a gentle, moisturizing and hypoallergenic shave cream specifically designed for “intimate” use, but amazing for garden-variety leg-shaving too. We love the Spring Blossom and Grapefruit Thyme scents, which are blended with mango and shea butters for extra-smoothing creaminess. Just the thing to take you into spring.

Tivoli Model One radio

Futuristic, shiny stuff has taken over the fashion world. There’s a weirdly Star Trek vibe going on in the style magazines and on the red carpet these days, which is why it’s something of a relief to see a gorgeous retro radio like the Tivoli Model One, available at TivoliAudio.com and online retailers. It looks like the radio your grandpa used to have on his desk. Even hard-dockin’ iPod loyalists have to love the old-school design, and thanks to the wooden panels, the sound is warm and rich and full. (And why did we start making audio systems out of high-tech fancy-schmancy plastics, exactly?)

“Get bottoms up” for pregnant women

pp_bottomsup_366.jpg

There are some things you just don’t say to a pregnant woman. For instance, “Hey, keep your pants on!” But as many a mom-to-be can tell you, keeping your pants on, or at least up where they belong in the general vicinity of the waistline, is actually more of a challenge than you might think. In the early months, your regular pants don’t fit, but your maternity pants are still too big. And then later on, all the elastic in the world can’t seem to keep a pair of pants from slowly rolling off a beachball-belly. BottomsUp, available at GetBottomsUp.MyShopify.com, offer a simple-but-stylish solution: stretchy, soft elastic bands that attach to your bra and your pants under your shirt — kind of like simplified suspenders. They’re available in discreet basic black, tan and brown, but we kind of like the leopard and green python prints too.

Clinique Gentle Waterproof Mascara Long-Wear Lash Intensifier

Product name: Clinique Gentle Waterproof Mascara Long-Wear Lash Intensifier

Claim: For the outdoors-inclined, Clinique promises super “staying power” that’s reliable for active sports and will come off with ease.
Tester says: If you’re an athlete or you love a natural, down-to-earth look, you’ll love this mascara. It’s not for dramatic movie star lashes ‑- it’s for when you want to look like you aren’t wearing any mascara. While the enhancement is subtle, it’s definitely long-lasting. This mascara didn’t clump or give me a raccoon-eye effect after several hours. It washed off quite easily. They weren’t kidding about this being “gentle.” This would be a great everyday mascara for anyone who wears contacts.
Price: $13.50
Available: Select retailers
Product name: Avon beComing Swimwear Wetproof Mascara
Claim: Waterproof for longer wear. Defines, lengthens and separates lashes.
Tester says: I was looking for mascara I could wear to the pool, and the name of this one screamed, “Pick me!” The shiny metallic tube looks really classy, and that sealed the deal. This mascara is nice and moist and very easy to apply. It did lengthen my lashes, but didn’t thicken them, and it took a little longer to set than my regular mascara. I wore it to the pool, though, and there was no smudging after several laps! I would recommend this mascara to anyone who wants to maintain her “eyes” in the pool. Be prepared though: It required several dabs of makeup remover to get it off.
Price: $11

The lighten up lotion by Tokidoki

bs_art_light_flash_325.jpg

Lighten Up
Some girls really know how to light up a room—and now you can be one of them. We love the sweet-smelling luminizer lotion by Tokidoki for Smashbox. Blend a dab into your favorite foundation or body lotion for an all-over glow, or use it alone to highlight cheeks and brow bones, to lighten without looking like you’re coated in glitter. Plus, the entire Tokidoki line comes in adorable, anime-inspired packaging we love. We can’t quite figure out what’s going on in this cute little picture on the box — is she trying to look at a tattoo over her shoulder? Is this little pink-haired fairy person a friend of hers? Why doesn’t anybody have a nose? Who can say? Now say “Tokidoki” 10 times fast. $22
